What People Say to Their Pets

I had a friend who used to say that it's not important what you say, it's important what the other person hears. So true. What about our pets? Do our dogs and cats understand us when we talk to them? Here's what I think it's like when we talk to our pets.

WHAT WE SAY TO OUR DOG SPOT

Good boy, Spot. That's a very good boy, Spot. Go fetch the ball, Spot. Good boy. Here's a treat for you, Spot. You're a good dog, Spot.

WHAT SPOT HEARS

blah blah Spot blah blah blah blah blah Spot blah blah blah blah Spot blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Spot blah blah blah blah Spot.

  4. Arnoldo is the way you say Arnold in Spanish. And the nickname for Arnoldo is Nono.

Pomeranians are nice dogs but they can be naughtly, like poodles. They bark a lot, don't they?

    Thanks for your comments!

  8. Joe,

Dogs do more than that! They bite, poop, eat, sleep, and bark. Well, Serena's dog doesn't bark. Maybe I'm leaving something out...:) lol

  9. I have a client who trains dogs in the far north side of Indianapolis. She has told me that on two occassions a client has asked for their dog to be trained in two languages. One woman wanted her dog to learn commands in both English and in Spanish. Another wanted his dog to learn commands in German and Spanish. Is it possible to be canine bi-lingual?

  10. Wayde, Yes, I think dogs (and other animals) can be bilingual. They respond to the word they hear, but they don't know what language it is in...:)
